2001 YEARLY FORECAST
GEMINI
The "self" and the "other"
Gemini is the bright, mutable air sign of the Zodiac. Gemini's astrological glyph, the Twins, is symbolic of a dual nature of shadow and light, intellect and heart, expansion and contraction. Mercury, the fastest moving planet in the solar system and the planet closest to the Sun rules it. Change, love of travel, intellectual pursuits and debates, languages, movement, uncertainty and chaos - this is but a small list of the many interests and loves of your life. Boredom, day-to-day-routines, nine-to-five schedules are dampers to your energetic and creative spirit. Peter Pan with his perennial youth and love of adventure reflects your restless and childlike nature.
The inherent duality of your Gemini nature - due partly to your ability to see several sides of an issue at once - will be intensely activated this year in the realm of personal relationships. There will be a constant dialogue between your "self" and its need for space, privacy and solitude, and the "other" - and his/her need for connection, commitment, and relationship. Pluto, the planet of emotional depth and renewal, conjoins with Chiron, the planet of healing and wisdom, in your seventh house of relationship for the entire year. Like the waves at the ocean with its high and low tides and ebbs and flows of movement, you can expect to be highly engaged with romantic and other intense one-on-one encounters for the entire year. Some periods will be much more volatile than others. For example, between May 11th and July 19th, when a retrograde Mars, also in the seventh sector of your solar chart, forces you to dig deep emotionally into a difficult entanglement and will not allow you to take your normal Gemini routes of escape. The end of the year also will be a high tide of emotional activity when your ruling planet, Mercury, enters the seventh house between November 27th and December 16th, with lovely Venus joining the party between the 4th and 28th of December.Strong emotional encounters flavored with insightful intellectual realizations will be the effect of these two planets' visits in this house.
More fuel is added to this dialogue of the "self" with the "other" as intense planetary influences in your ninth house of spirit and solitude, your first house of self, and your fifth house of creativity inflame your need for self-expression and reflection. Each of these houses will have the presence of your ruling planet, Mercury, during a retrograde period. These are the times when you will need to organize, reflect, and reevaluate what your most important priorities should be - yourself or the needs of others.
The first Mercurial retrograde is between February 4th-25th, and falls into the area of your solar chart that deals with your spiritual needs and ambitions. Mercury will be in the intellectually curious sign of Aquarius, and you may meet important mentors or teachers under this transit. Personal relationships at this time should be put on the back burner if possible.
The second retrograde of Mercury, between June 4th-28th, falls under your own sign of Gemini, and into the first house of self-expression. You can expect a very strong pull between your own needs to be free and independent, with an opposing pull from an intense lover or friend who will demand commitment and time. The last week of May (and especially the 26th) will also be difficult when Mars, in the opposing seventh house and the sign of Sagittarius, creates a tense atmosphere of close encounters of the marital kind.
The third retrograde of Mercury takes place in Libra between October 1st and the 23rd and falls into your house of creativity in the fifth sector of your solar chart. Venus, the planet of relationship, enters the same house on the 16th of the month. Your desire to create will be oriented toward yourself and the arts until Venus enters the picture - then it will be very much a desire to create a joint venture. Unless you strongly want to conceive a child at this time, be extremely careful about romantic entanglements.
For most of the last year, you have been under the once-in-every-twelve years' influence of generous Jupiter in your sign and the first sector of your chart. The Jovian influence in the first house is one of an increased sense of confidence, health and well-being. This will continue until the 13th of July when Jupiter then enters into Cancer and into your second house, the house of financial and emotional security. Your financial resources should greatly improve this year with Jupiter's travelling into the second sector. Keep your ears open for investments and speculations that may sound unusual, but could offer substantial rewards. The best time for insightful investing will be in August when Mercury enters into Cancer and the second house as well (between July 13th and July 31st).
Saturn, the teacher, disciplinarian, and foundation-builder of the zodiac, enters into Gemini and your first house on April 21st. This inaugurates a two-year period of solidifying and foundation building in every aspect of your life.Marriage, partnerships in businesses, any joint ventures with long-term goals, will come into focus with the energy of Saturn and your Sun in the same sign and house. Sometimes Saturn's influence is initially felt as a kind of "heaviness", or weighing down. This is only a natural reaction, especially for the carefree Gemini, to the more responsible and adult-tones of Saturn. However Jupiter, Venus and Mercury will be moving through Gemini as well, until the beginning of August, so you shouldn't feel the weight of Saturn's leaden touch too heavily.
Your health should continue to be radiant, although a yearly check-up is always recommended. Saturn's entrance into your sign in April, and moving into a conjunct relationship with your Sun, can initially bring on feelings of melancholy and mild depression. These should pass quickly though, as you adjust to the heavier gravity and slower pace of the Saturnian influence.
Your desire to find a deeper meaning in your life, a connection with a religion or philosophy, are greatly enhanced by the presence of Neptune and Uranus in Aquarius in your ninth house of spiritual journeys, and higher education.Trips may be taken in January or early March that arouse a sense of wonder and inspiration for you, since Mercury will be in the ninth house between the 1st of January until the 18th of March. November may also find you highly motivated to travel, or take an intense course or retreat, when Mars moves into Aquarius and your ninth sector for the entire month. With Neptune's presence in this sector for the entire year, be careful of any gurus, teachers, or mentors that seem too good to be true - they probably aren't all that they portray to be.
Highlights in the Year 2001
Love & Romance - Understanding the seesaw of relationships
Your seventh house, the sector of the chart reflecting intimate
relationships, marriages, joint partnerships in business, and
deep friendships, will be home to both Pluto and Chiron in
Sagittarius for the entire year. Saturn, the planet which can
bring traditional and formal energies to any situation it aspects,
will move into the opposing sign of Gemini and your first house
on April 21st.This mixture will create a very complicated
cocktail of relationships for you. Your innate need for "breathing-room"
in relationships, the air quality of your sign, conflicts with
the earthy need of Saturn to solidify relationships and
agreements. The pace of intensity accelerates in May when your
ruling planet, Mercury, moves into Gemini for over two months
between May 7th and July 13th. Mars will be in the seventh house
in Sagittarius as well between February 2nd and September 9th, so
expect passion and fiery sexual energy to fuel the situation
especially around the new moon in Gemini on May 22nd and the full
moon on June 5th in Sagittarius. You need a partner that can
understand and tolerate your need for independence and
flexibility in a relationship. However, you must also try to
understand the need for security and commitment of your partner.
Family & Friends - Learning to listen
You can often overlook the needs of other people. It is not
because you are selfish, but more that your mental wheels are
continually turning - always trying to figure out the "how"
and "why" of a situation. You need to slow down and
learn to listen to what friends and family might be saying,
especially in February when a retrograde Mercury in Aquarius
between the 4th and 25th of the month, brings out family
conflicts that need your sound judgment to resolve. Summer will
be hopping with ample opportunity for helping friends and family
when Mercury enters your third house on July 31st for a two-week
period. Your insight into others will be greatly sharpened by the
presence of your ruling planet here. Venus joins the sector
between August 28th and September 22nd. This should add a great
deal of pleasure to the last month of autumn with several family
gatherings and dinners with friends
Financial Forecasts - Summer brings the ripening of fruit
Jupiter moves into your house of financial security on July 13th
and remains a tenant there for nearly a year. The vitality that
Jupiter has been bestowing on your health and self-confidence for
the last year will move into your financial resources.Venus will
also move into this house on August 2nd until the 28th, so
financial tips and windfalls may come through loved ones or an
art speculation. With your ruling planet Mercury in Cancer
between the 13th and 31st of July, intuitions should be paid
close attention to. Mercury will also be in a harmonious
relationship with Uranus on the 6th of July indicating that
speculations with investments that are slightly risky may pay off
down the line. Be sure to get as many facts as possible before
investing a serious amount of money into them.
Career Scope - Freedom and independence
Although you are hardworking, diligent and meticulous, your need
for complete freedom and independence doesn't exactly make you
the perfect and contented employee. With so many planets this
year involved with relationships with the "other",
working for an employer or company will not be a high priority
for you. What is important is that you will have a very strong
desire to be your own boss or create your own company.Mercury
lights up the way for this possibility between March 18th and
April 7th by progressing into the tenth house, the house of your
career, and the intuitive sign of Pisces. Playing hunches now
about what will serve you best career wise will pay off later in
April when Saturn's entrance into Gemini on the 21st begins to
solidify business deals and negotiations.
Health & Well-being - Slowing down a bit lets you see more
flowers
Saturn may present a challenge to your energy when it enters into
your sign on April 21st. Sometimes the earthy planet brings a
sense of heaviness and melancholy. The best antidote for this is
movement - dance, running, Tai Chi. Melancholy can be productive
if the energy is used creatively. The full moon in Virgo on the 3rd
of March, and the full moon in Capricorn on the 5th of July, may
be difficult evenings for you physically. When you have your
annual check-up, be sure to have your thyroid gland checked -it
is influenced by Mercury and can sometimes create difficulties
with Gemini metabolisms.Radiant Jupiter will remain in your first
house and sign, infusing you with its abundant energy, until the
middle of July. You should have an ample reserve of vitality to
deal with any health issues quickly.
Spirituality - Beware the Emperor's new clothing
With both the powerful outer planets of Neptune and Uranus in
your ninth house of spiritual longings and journeys, in the soul-searching
sign of Aquarius, this year will be a trip of seeking and finding
and losing and rediscovering, your own lost treasures of
spiritual meaning. It begins in earnest with Mercury's retrograde
in Aquarius in February between the 2nd and 25th of the month.
Mercury is your ruling planet, and whenever it goes retrograde,
or appears to move backward in the zodiac, it signals a time for
slowing down, reflection, for pause and meditation. This will be
the beginning of a period when you question the deeper meaning of
your life and look for a system of beliefs or a group of people
to connect with that begins to answer some of your philosophical
and religious queries. The new moon in Pisces on the 23rd of
February may find you listening to a mentor or teacher who will
become very influential in your life. Just be sure the person is
as genuine and sincere as you think - Neptune's influence can
often cloud one's perception. In November when Mars moves into
the ninth sector for a month, tremendous energy will infuse your
search and bring you much closer to a sense of contentment
spiritually.
Summary
Relationships and partnerships will be the area of your life that will change the most dramatically in 2001. Your sense of what personal freedom means will be transformed by Saturn's progression into your sign. You will find that commitment and solidity offer a comfort and depth you no longer shun or try to escape from. Your career, on the other hand, moves in the other direction toward a greater freedom and independence.
